Funivia Ortisei - Alpe di Siusi monitors 4km of tow rope with AURA

The Ortisei–Alpe di Siusi cable car connects the centre of Ortisei with the Alpe di Siusi at around 2,000 metres, providing fast access to one of Europe’s best-known alpine destinations. Operated by the Kostner family, with Werner Kostner and his son Andreas running the business, the ropeway combines a strong family tradition with a clear focus on safety and innovation. Looking for an automated way to complement the inspection of their 2S system, the operator selected Raidyn’s continuous rope-monitoring technology - AURA. Remarkably, the complete system was installed by the local team with remote support from Raidyn. Later in the summer representatives from the Province of Bolzano and the engineering studio of Ing. Gasser were invited to witness the installation and initial operation with the presence of Raidyn.
"The safety of our passengers and the facility is our top priority. This system finally allows us to monitor the tow rope effectively and without human errors and without any risk. We were very impressed by the image quality, even at high speeds."

The first results confirmed the quality of the installation and demonstrated reliable automated analysis, including consistent splice monitoring of the hauling rope. The project is also the beginning of a broader collaboration: Raidyn and the Kostner family have agreed to work together on extending the technology beyond the hauling ropes to support the inspection of the carriers as well. This makes Ortisei an important reference installation for Raidyn—not only as a deployment of continuous rope monitoring in an operating ropeway, but as a joint innovation project aimed at expanding how automated vision technology can support ropeway safety in the future.
“We have also found a smart partner in Raidyn with whom we can work closely to further develop our safety systems. It is important to us to always stay up to date with safety standards.”
